Does lust overpower love?

As the winter sets in on Chicago, things have been getting pretty serious between Breon and Trina. Having been together for a while, Trina finds out that Breon was seen coming out of a jewelry store. Trina and her two sisters run with this, especially considering the fact that Breon brings up the idea of taking a trip to Gatlinburg for their anniversary. However, all of this could be quickly changing. When Breon goes to Wayne’s house for a coming home party for a friend who has just gotten out of prison, he sees a chick he’d heard about in school and used to have a bit of a crush on Nikki. And she is so much more tempting now than she was back then. Little does Breon know, Nikki will really have her eyes on him once she’s heard that he is getting married. Will Breon be able to resist the temptation that is Nikki? How will Nikki react when she finds out that Breon may be popping the question soon to his main chick, Trina? Find out the answer to these questions and more in The Wrath of a Side Chick (Part 1).

This book was awful. I am so disappointed that is received so many stars. The characters do not develop. They are all constantly saying "and s***" or "and stuff." It was poorly edited. You could tell that it was not looked over many times before publishing. There were instances where the author used the wrong name in a situation. Also, simple grammar mistakes riddled the book. It was almost as if every character in the book was motivated by sex. It is an alternating persons narration and I thought it would mean some character variety, but I feel like each character had the same thoughts about life. Sex. Every conversation someone is asking, thinking, going to, coming from having sex.

All of the characters are around 20 years old but as a teacher, I felt like I was in the bathroom with my high school students. The conversations between the characters were THAT CHILDISH. Even between the male character and his to-be fiance. They are supposed to have chemistry and be in love but their conversations are one-dimensional and are riddled with "and stuff" or "and stuff." This is the reason why I steer clear of this genre. If we want to be respected as African American authors, we must be serious about our craft. It seems to me like this book was written in one setting and the author was just eager to get a check for publishing as quickly as possible. "Urban" doesn't have to mean poorly written and characters without voice whose main motivation is getting screwed. "The Coldest Winter Ever" was proof of that. Do NOT purchase this book! The title is Misleading. The story never picked up and ended at 49%. Lots of stale moments I found myself skimming through most of the pages. Honestly I want a refund.
Breon you done messed up boy. This book had me all in my feelings Ms. Tamicka Higgins.
I hope Trina comes out the winner. These guys mess up all the time. I loved this book and I wait patiently for the continuation. Good job Ms.Higgins. You have got a fan in me. I also received this copy for my honest review.
This book really isn't for me. The conversations of the characters were very amateurish and there was entirely too much emphasis on Nikki's assets and head game. I got the picture the first time, but it was all Breon seemed to focus on
Nothing happened. There was no wrath or anything. All they did was have sex, she found out he was getting married and it ended. Wrong name for the book. I was waiting for something good to happen. All I kept reading was how big his penis was and how good she gave head. Disappointed, no drama.
I received a free advance reader copy of this book in exchange for an honest & unbiased view...this book was OK...I think too much detail was given in the beginning of chapter 1 when Tramar was riding in his car...I mean it pointed out every detail of what he was passing by it was too much I ended up skipping most of it...then it got good...didn't like ending didn't see the wrath yet....overall it was an OK book...I would get part 2 just to see what Nikki will do...
Glad the first one was free because this was not my cup of tea. The repetitive use of certain words and the story didn't flow for me.
So, I downloaded this book late one night while at work when I was tired, hungry, and ready to go home. I read a few pages and was so annoyed. I figured it was just my nerves being shot, so I picked the book back up a few days later. No. I was right. The book is just extra annoying. I can't stand the way the phrases ' and stuff ' or ' and ish ' is overly repeated. Among other things. Cannot and will not finish.
